A €10 million relief fund to help those worst affected by the flooding has been announced by the Government.

Farmers will be given an additional €2m. A national flood warning system is also on the cards.

Many parts of the country are dealing with the ongoing threat and the aftermath of flooding this morning, with water levels on the Shannon still very high.

Last night the army came to assist Athlone residents, as water levels there were particularly high.

A major clean up is continuing in parts of Cork.
